Being an advocate of natural health and herbal remedies, it was not a great leap to find myself intrigued with the rising popularity of CBD oils and medical cannabis. I had personally witnessed many people find relief and healing from various ailments through using cannabidiol medicines, and even more notable stories through the media of CBD oils successfully treating conditions such as anxiety, chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, inflammation, and cancer. However, when faced with serious ill health within my own family, my passion for CBD plant medicines stepped forward.
My mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease a little more than 12 months ago, and quickly boxed into a program of standard pharmaceutical treatments providing little benefit.
With personal life stress factors exacerbating her illness and elevating her anxiety, which resulted in increased shaking and high blood pressure, I suggested she try CBD oils. Watching my mother’s hands shake uncontrollably was distressing to me, and noticing that her symptoms, such as lack of mental clarity and emotional stability, would worsen when under pressure, I was very concerned.
It was understandable that a 70 year old lady would have some apprehension around using CBD oils as the media often presents this medicine under the umbrella of cannabis and cannabis products, and some people immediately have an aversion to the idea of getting “high”. Unlike THC however, the other main compound in hemp and cannabis plants (CBD) does not have an intoxicating effect, and actually eases anxiety.
I discovered research from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky which identified a previously unknown molecular target of cannabidiol (CBD), which is showing significant therapeutic implications for Parkinson’s Disease (PD).
As discussed at ‘https://www.projectcbd.org/science/cannabis-pharmacology/cbd-and-parkinsons-disease’ Cannabinoids have neuroprotectant, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which can be beneficial for the treatment and management of Parkinson’s Disease.
This heartbreaking condition is associated with impairment of motor control after the loss of 60-80% of dopamine-producing neurons in a critical brain region.

After only 4 days of following her CBD treatment plan of gradually increased dosage towards maintenance level, my Mother reported feeling a greater sense of calm and stability, despite the continued pressures and stresses affecting her life at the time.
Speaking with her daily by phone I could clearly note her clarity of mind and level of emotional balance, as well as her own reports of reduced physical issues such as tremors.
The concentrated drops of Hemp Healing’s 10ml DO oil enabled an easeful administration of CBD medicine for my mother to handle. A few drops under the tongue or with a spoonful of honey, unlike the multiple bitter pills of pharmaceuticals prescribed to her, was a new pleasant self-care ritual. We are continuing to monitor her progress and engage in advocacy for this natural medicine.
