How to use CBD Oil
What is the Recommended Dosage?
CBD dosage can vary for a number of factors, such as:
- The formulation of the CBD you have acquired
- Your individual biochemistry
- The condition that is being treated
Every person will have individual results and responses to CBD, and the benefits can be subtle at first.
It is best to begin with a low dose, and gradually increase whilst monitoring your responses as you work your way up to an optimum dose. This is called the up-titration method.
Ultimately you must discover your specific dosing regimen by increasing slowly over time to reach a comfortable dosage where you feel the most relief.

Example Starting Dose
For a 2000mg in 10ml bottle:
- First 3-5 days – 1 drop 3 times a day
- Next 3-5 days – 2 drops 3 times a day
- Next 3-5 days – 3 drops 3 times a day
Download our Product Guide for more information on dosages.
After beginning as above, stay on 3 drops 3 times a day until you have been using CBD for about 3 weeks, then access how it is working for you. If necessary, continue to gradually increase the dosage to where you feel the most relief. For example, increase to 4 drops 3 times a day. If you increase and feel that not much additional relief is obtained, reduce back to your previous dose. This becomes your ‘maintenance’ dose.
How often should I take CBD Oil?
It is recommended to take your CBD 3 times per day, with around 3 hours between doses, however some people may feel that taking CBD only once per day is right for them as a maintenance program.
It’s also best to consume the CBD on an empty stomach, to avoid the stomach acids breaking down the CBD before it is absorbed.
Is it better to take CBD in the morning or evening?
Our recommended dosage regime would include both morning and evening, however as previously mentioned, it is important to find out what works best for your unique self.
Raw CBD can feel more uplifting, and therefore some people find this product more suitable for a morning dosage. Whereas the decarb CBD is generally found to be more calming, and therefore beneficial for sleep and relaxation.
Whichever you choose, you will find the suitable maintenance dosage for your system.
Is it better to swallow or hold under your tongue?
As with many medicines, placing CBD under the tongue for 1-2 minutes is recommended, this provides maximum absorption via capillaries in the mouth.
Immediately swallowing CBD oil may offer less absorption due to the acids in the stomach breaking it down before it is taken up by the body.
Some people find that swallowing CBD oil can leave a harsh taste at the back of the throat. By holding it under the tongue and letting it absorb gradually, this is minimised. Another solution for those who find the taste harsh is to follow it with a light snack, or a spoonful of honey.
What is the shelf life of CBD once opened?
For ideal longevity, store your CBD oil in the fridge and it will last for up to a year. Note that when exposed to sunlight or direct heat, the potency may be reduced.
Can I take CBD simultaneously with prescribed medication?
Always consult with your doctor or health professional before trying CBD if you are taking prescription medicine.
Can I take CBD when pregnant?
As a precaution, we advise not to take CBD when pregnant. Your decision should always be made with the advice of a qualified medical practitioner.
